Pancerni cavalry with rohatyna spears
In 1648 some units of the Cossack style cavalry were renamed as Pancerni (armoured cavalry), either to distinguish them from rebel Cossacks or to indicate that they are better armoured. Some of pancerni units were using rohatyna spear alongside other weapons. Thanks to this they could be used as ‘shock cavalry’ alongside husaria (the Winged Hussars).
