A Norwegian Stormtropp (Storm Troop) is a mechanised infantry unit with the role of working in cooperaton with the tanks of the armoured battalion of which they are an integral part. They are armed with MG3 machine-guns, Carl Gustav recoilless anti-tank weapons, G3 battle rifles and 66mm M72 LAW disposible anti-tank rockets. They ride in M113 armoured personel carriers (APC, Norwegian PPK, pansret personellkjøretøy) and NM135 infantry fighting vehicles (IFV, Norwegian SPV, Stormpanservogn).

The NM135 stormpanservogn is rebuilt on the M113 chassis, modified to add a turret on the right side. The turret is armed with a 20mm  Rheinmetall autocannon. The NM135 carried an anti-tank group, a machine-gun group, the deputy section leader, and the reserve vehicle commander — who took over when the section commander dismounted from the vehicle commander’s position.

When the section disembarked, the vehicle commander switched to the section leader role, and the vehicle could thus operate independently of the infantry section under command of the reserve vehicle commander. The distribution of the unit through the NM135 and M113 transport vehicles can vary from vehicle to vehicle, depending on the wishes of the troop commander.

A Danish Panserinfanteri Deling (Armoured Infantry Platoon) was generally made up of three groups, each in turn was made up of around nine to eleven soldiers lead by a sergeant. Each group was armed with one M/62 (MG3) machine-gun, one M/79 (Carl Gustav) recoilless rifle, M/72 LAWs and M/75 (G-3) semi-automatic rifles.

The Panserinfanteri Deling had three crewed M113s armed with .50 cal machine-guns, one for each group, to transport the platoon to and from the battlefield. In defensive operations the M113s, with their heavy machines-guns, could act as machine-gun nests giving supporting defensive fire, and in offensive operations as a base of fire for the assaulting infantry.
