Like many German vehicles to see extensive combat during 1944 and 1945, the Wespe self-propelled 10.5cm howitzer first saw combat during mid-1943 on the Eastern Front. The Wespe mounts the highly effective 10.5cm leFH18 howitzer on a modified Panzer II light tank chassis with a protected fighting compartment for the crew.
The 7.5cm PaK40 anti-tank gun was mounted on a variety of vehicles to make tank-hunters. The Marder II (Sd Kfz 131) was based on the Panzer II ausf. F model light tank. 531 Marder II tank-hunters were produced from July 1942 to June 1943, while another 130 more were converted from mid 1943 to early 1944 when the last Panzer II tanks were taken out of frontline service.
