Boyar Sons Cavalry
(MOS-1)
Boyar Sons cavalry is a medium cavalry formation made up of Russian nobility called “opolcheniye” (a kind of yeomanry). It included poor nobility which arrive to serve in person. In return for their service they were awarded with land endowments or pay. The bravest and best of the boyars were formed into reconnaissance sotnias (hundred). Their equipment varied depending on the wealth of the nobleman and instructions concerning armament were quite general. They arrived with sabers, maces, short spears, bows or long firearms. Similarly armors were not uniform.
