Banners were commanded mostly by nobles (Wallachians, less frequently Poles) who served as rotamasters and lieutenants but there were commanders of non-noble origin. Wallachian cavalry was armed with sabres and bows and they also often used carbine and pistols. Generally speaking, the Wallachian cavalry did not wear armour but some officers might have worn it. Wallachian cavalry were used for skirmishes, reconnaissance and screening.
