Poorer nobles form the boyar sons cavalry and were obliged to serve in person. Pomiestna cavalry were a typical medium cavalry with varied armament and armour. Although in the 17th century the combat value of the pomiestna was low, they constituted a large proportion of the Muscovite cavalry.
